Landmark's Macmillan Coffee Morning

Landmark's Macmillan Coffee Morning

Feeling inspired by the cakes baked on the first week of the Great British Bake Off 2021, we held a coffee morning (without the coffee) on Friday the 24th September, in front of our Broadway Store and in our Marlborough branch. Numerous members of staff and friends of Landmark baked (and faked it) for the coffee morning, leaving us with a table piled full of various different cakes and cookies. Although we had no signature bake mini-rolls, no moreish malt loaf and a definite lack of gravity defying illusion cakes, we did have a brilliant selection of plain Rocky Road, Rolo Rocky Road, Chocolate Brownies, Double Chocolate Cookies, Lemon Drizzle, Cream Puffs, Victoria Sandwich, Chocolate Cupcakes, Sprinkle Tray Bake and even Vegan Cupcakes, along with a few familiar faces such as Colin the Caterpillar cupcakes. Prue and Paul would be proud! Lots of generous people visiting the high street in Broadway kindly donated to the wonderful charity and bought an array of colourful cakes home with them, and we may have bought a few for the staff room here in Landmark too…

We managed to raise a total of £338.18 for Macmillan Cancer Support from cake sales at both our Broadway and Marlborough stores, contributing to the £624,053 raised across the country at other coffee mornings which is enough to fund 11 Macmillan nurses for a year.

Macmillan takes the time to support people affected by cancer individually, helping people to live their lives as fully as possible. They fund and support a range of health and social care professionals who provide patients and their families with support and information to help them make important decisions. The first Macmillan Coffee Morning was held in 1990. It started with the simple idea that guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. This initial coffee morning was so popular that it has continued to be held every year since with groups of people hosting coffee mornings across the nation, and has managed to raise over £290 million for the charity.
